About Us

Our team of lawyers, doctors, midwives and nurses provide specialist support services
to personal injury and clinical negligence practitioners.

Collaboras was created by Jan Thompson and Lee Raynor, both of whom worked in private practice for many years. Having specialised in personal injury and clinical negligence work, they identified a gap in the market for a niche outsourcing service to meet the needs of today’s legal departments practicing in these areas.

Our aim is to provide a service to complement and enhance your own; leaving you to focus on your clients. We want you to regard us an extension of your team and to this end we consider that it is vital to understand your business and your ethos so that our service can be effectively tailored to your specific requirements.

Because our team includes qualified professionals who all have considerable experience within the personal injury and clinical negligence sectors, we are proud to offer an unrivalled and unique service based on expert knowledge and professionalism. Your client’s case will always be assigned to the most appropriately experienced member of the team to ensure the best possible service. High standards and a dedication to client satisfaction are at the centre of everything we do at Collaboras.

We are not just about collating medical records, we are able to offer so much more. Our services continue to grow as we become the leading medico-legal consultancy to offer comprehensive support for all the investigative steps in a clinical negligence claim.

Our People

We are very proud of our unique, highly experienced and dedicated team of Medico-Legal Consultants and support staff.

The team consists of some of the best qualified medical and legal professionals involved in clinical negligence and personal injury litigation. We pride ourselves on our service based on experience, knowledge and dedication to produce high quality work for our clients.

The majority of our Medico-Legal Consultants are employed by Collaboras. This enables us to provide a highly consistent and efficient service. It also means that we can discuss cases in-house amongst the team, ensuring that you get the best possible outcome from our multi-disciplinary approach.

The team has a combined experience of over 250 years in the medical and legal fields.

We have a number of nurses who have practiced in A&E, urology, cardiology, vascular, orthopaedics, neurology, surgery, oncology, gynaecology, community, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, as well as general practice.

Our midwives are specialists in birth injury cases, analysis of CTG, shoulder dystocia, vaginal tears, perinatal issues, together with neonatology care.

Our doctors have worked in surgery, medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, O&G, ENT and paediatrics. One of them was a Consultant in Acute Medicine and was Clinical Lead for a number of years in a leading teaching hospital in the north-west. As such they have extensive experience in dealing with patients with various acute and chronic conditions, including cardiology, chest medicine, gastroenterology, rheumatology and various surgical specialties.

Our lawyers have worked in-house at some of the leading clinical negligence firms in the country, and can advise on the legal aspects of each case.

As a result, our combined expertise means that we are perfectly placed to consider the relevant issues in each and every case that we deal with.

We are a true medico-legal outfit.

Why Collaboras?

We are an outsourced medico-legal team providing a truly bespoke service to clients fulfilling their needs from new client enquiry screening through to medical records collation and screening reports.

We provide a friendly and flexible approach to our service. No job is too big or too small. We can easily adapt to your specific needs, by implementing your existing precedents, so our work sits seamlessly with your other work prepared in-house or elsewhere. Alternatively, we can use our own precedents, if this is more suited to you.

We work hard to ensure consistent quality standards throughout. This is helped enormously by the fact that the majority of the team are directly employed by Collaboras and work together in our offices in Macclesfield with shared information, systems and support. Any tweeking of our service, or any specific requirements you may have, can be implemented quickly and efficiently. Our regular team training means that we are all kept up to date with relevant aspects of practice affecting our work.

All work is checked as it progresses to ensure that our high standards are met throughout. All written work is approved by the Directors for quality control prior to being returned to the client. Unlike other medical agencies, who use only medically trained personnel, we are a multi-disciplinary team and are perfectly placed to get to the heart of the relevant issues on liability, and can tackle these from both a medical and legal perspective.

We produce a very detailed file note of the work we have undertaken to enable you to recover our time in accordance with the agency principle, where applicable. Our file notes have been drafted by our in-house costs draftsperson to ensure maximum profitability on the work we do for you.

We are able to offer deferred fees easing the financial burden on firms. We can also offer fixed fees, where requested.

We are regularly complimented on our work by leading clinical negligence and personal injury practitioners, as well as by experts and counsel. In particular, we are praised for our in-depth knowledge of the law/medicine, our innovative approach and the thoroughness of our work.

Having worked in private practice ourselves, we are familiar with the issues of client confidentiality and the ethical standards placed on law firms. All instructions will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and we will ensure the same quality standards as you would expect to be delivered in-house. We ensure full compliance with Data Protection issues; all electronic work is held securely on our workspace and files are always transported securely.

We are always happy to hear from people who would like to join our team.
You may be experienced in this type of work, or are looking for a career change.
